Linux Mint >>> Ubuntu

I like Mint a lot more than Ubuntu. Here is why:

1) The interface looks like Windows. There is something vaguely resembling a Start Menu in the lower left corner. The open windows are displayed on a taskbar on the bottom of the screen. The minimize/maximize/close buttons are on the top right of the windows where windows users have been trained to look for them, not on the upper left side like a Mac user would expect.

2) The open windows work like MS windows. They do not disappear when I click on something else. They stay on the screen under whatever I am looking at. When I click away from Firefox it does not disappear and require me to re-click the Firefox icon to get back to my web browsing.

3) The white and green colors look sooooo much better than vomit-orange ubuntu!!

4) The software manager works just like ubuntu, the drivers are easy to install, and the internet connection is instant (much easier than updating a bunch of drivers one-by-one for Windows lol). So the attributes I do like about Ubuntu over Windows are present on Mint.

5) Mint runs much faster than Ubuntu (with the default Unity desktop on Ubuntu). The desktop does not pause for a second whenever I try to open something. Ubuntu lags even when I just try to open the home directory. It's not my computer, which is screaming fast on other operating systems, including Windows 7. With Mint everything works instantaneously when I click it. So much nicer than that Ubuntu lag.

6) Mint has a better name. I don't even know how to pronounce Ubuntu lol. I have heard it pronounced several ways on videos where people were talking about it. Which u's are long and which are short? Make up your mind people. "Mint" is simple.

Three more things that make Mint better than Ubuntu - Firefox has DuckDuckGo installed as the search bar, which doesn't have all the ad spam and privacy issues that the Google Toolbar has in Ubuntu Firefox.

When you go to look for applications in Mint, you don't see products offered by amazon.com based on your search habits (Ubuntu has this "feature" and I found it annoying).

In Mint, the scroll bars on the right sides of any open windows contain a movable slider that works just like Windows, not the slider with the up and down arrows in Ubuntu (modeled after Mac OS X). I like this a lot. The windows similarities really reduce the learning curve for me a lot, so I can focus on actually using the operating system to do things.

The reason I switched to SuSE and now OpenSuSE way back in 2000 was SuSE's support for lots of hardware and the ability to setup and configure things the easy way as opposed to Red Hat (at the time).

Ubuntu now seems to have have an edge for new users but I still prefer openSuSE for its combination of GUI setup and config and decent support via the SuSE build project and pakman (repositories).

I've tried several other Linux distributions but keep coming back to openSuSE.
That's the great thing about Linux, lots of choices.

I purposely make my desktop look as far from Windows as I can.
I wasn't too happy with all the bloat the Gnome and KDE desktops have been adding recently and am currently running the XFCE desktop mainly for its speed.
