When Money Dies Empty When Money Dies

Read this to understand how the Weimar Republic collapsed due to overprinting money and hyper-inflation. Scary stuff if you live in the US or EU as most of us do.

Didn't read it (yet) but very familiar with the history.

We are most definitely headed in the direction of hyper-inflation.
Some predictions are around October 2014.

If we just keep printing money and running up our debt we are surely doomed.

It's actually a good read, it takes you into the personal lives of how Germans lived through the hyperinflation of the 1920s. One woman was rich at first, then when the soldiers came home she had two disabled young men to care for, one was blinded and the other lost his legs. And then her wealth was reduced to worthlessness when the German government tried to print their way out of debt after the war.

She went from being rich and happy to absolute misery in a couple years. And this is what pretty much happened to the whole country. That's why they voted for Hitler. Actually a majority did not vote for Hitler but there were so many people running for the same office that he only needed 15% of the vote to win.

Germans were happier during WWI than after the war.

I did not realize this and it explains so much about why they were willing to start WWII. After the Versailles treaty all the soldiers came home to no jobs (the businesses had learned how to function with fewer workers) and half of the soldiers were disabled. And the government had to print money to pay the war reparations.

Obviously with the US on the verge of collapse unless we can print and borrow more money we are facing the same risk. What a mess!
