Haunted mansion problem Empty Haunted mansion problem

Post by OneOldMan Mon Nov 03, 2014 7:26 pm

Tonight I discovered a vulnerability in the haunted mansion map.  It may be known to some but it's new to me.  It's been accepted to let people play in the area above the tree line.  Personally I think this is playing off map since you can hide just off the map and gas or mortar with impunity.

Tonight though I found that when the obj. was taken the allied, Astor*dog, had not come around to the front of the mansion where I was waiting at the wall, but I just caught a glimpse of the green obj. symbol above and off map.  Astor was trying to get the objective by the axis using the upper route which is off map and almost impossible to see or kill him.

I had often wondered when the objective was taken why at times it was never seen going by.  Now I know.  I think this area of the map should be considered as "off map".  Twice I tried to shoot two different allies in two different areas above the tree line and they just dropped down behind the tree line to safety. What's the opinion? Neutral

I agree that it should be considered off map.  A couple of times I've had someone up taking out allies, and it was damn near impossible to kill them.

Astor Dog is a very clever player. He does stuff like this whenever he can.

I totally understand why he goes up there, it's a great place to camp and a good way to bypass all the defenders when running the obj back.

The bots cannot get up there on their own. So by that standard then it would be off-map.

It would be difficult to enforce this as many people are used to going up there now. And it would be difficult to block with a mapscript unless we lowered the roof so the treeline is at the same height as the ceiling of the map.

More opinions??

Mine is just an opinion.  First, I'd like a detailed explanation of where this so-called hidden passageway exists between one part to the next...I can get to the top of the trees, just don't know the rest.

As for the "off-map" part, I'd have to say that for killing only, then it's good ... to at least be within line of sight/bullet of map areas.  Bots can still shoot you when you're up high anway.  But taking the objective to an off-map part that the bot can't get to or see isn't ... and does that even exist in that map?  From the same perspective, the rooftop would be "off map."  So would the roof & tower on Minas.  And the roof or top of walls on most any map.

I agree Hash I'd like to know that too. I've tried jumping up there with no luck.
Obviously not many know the secret way. Or more people would be using it.
The best way to defend against it would be to be able to get up there, go after the thief that stole the gold!
It would even the playing field some. Could even make some think twice about going that way,,, if someone could be waiting for them. After all they are not avoiding the bots. They all behind them. They avoiding the live players.

You know, Twisted, I even assumed there would be some map glitch one time between areas and wanted to know it, so I went spec and tried to find it ... if you can get through or float through, then you can probably on foot with panzer jumps too.  But I couldn't find it.  Maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.  Still doubtful it exists.  I only know for sure you can get on top of the trees, not pass between different parts of that whole map--that's what I'm doubtful of.

i know lot of e.t maps have issues likes this in railgun there was one watertank where you could get in and kill or to anything but they could not kill you thx that you could not even see it but with lower gravity settings its easier to access these parts of the map

I agree with CowboyUp.

It seems to me that playing off map is unfair considering certain terms of warfare. There are generally rules of engagement and not considering collateral damage, certain targets are off limits in a war. Why do we have to cheat to win? Let's maintain a balance and let the best "team" win the game. I am all for working collaboratively as a unit. That's military strategy afterall.

In my opinion having the advantage to move off map to win a battle would be equivalent to having the ability to pass through walls to complete a map undetected by the opposition. It can lead to a slippery slope of other unfair cheats.

Best solution, IMO
You might lose the ability to snipe from treetops but it prevents the whole problem.

ok i wont tell all how. but... top of trees, back side of trees, and under the map (you can see everything above you. you just cant shoot anyone)............ all the way to the drop point then noob tube back to the top of trees and finish map... it is off map. bots and people can kill you on top of trees but not behind or under map. you can see for yourself in spec.
