RIP 9800GT
My Nvidia 9800GT died on me last night after playing ET:Quake Wars.
Its seems to be a thermal runaway issue near or in the GPU itself.
I pulled it and swapped in an older 8600GTS.
My system is older so I'm debating finding a replacement 9800 or moving up to a GTX280 or possibly a 400 or 500 series card if I find a good price.
I assume I won't see much improvement since my system consists of a Tyan socket 939 mono with dual core opteron @1.8ghz, 1gb of ddr2 and a pci-e at 16x (not 2.0 or 3.0).
Would you agree?

Here is a replacement GeForce 9800 GT for $5 (the auction ends in 8 hours so hurry):

Re: RIP 9800GT
Oh lol, I remember buying this 9800 GT few years back and it has cost me almost my whole salary. Actually I was saving for it. Now it's 5$
It never failed me though, I still use it, and won't change for anything better, since I don't play anything except ET.

Re: RIP 9800GT
I see a Geforce 460GTX on Amazon for $79.00
I'm wondering if it's worth doing this with a socket 939 Mobo running a dual core opteron at 1.8GHz, 2GB of DDR400 and a 16x PCIe slot.
