LAG, LAG, LAG!
Serious lag last night around 7:50 pm. Snatch3 was good but the next map was terrible. Even lower ping, 102, could not play. I logged off and tried to come back but could not. The server was finally full but could not handle the amount I guess.

And now it has been down for the last few hours also. However Minas has a lot of players now.

The Beginner server crashed a couple hours ago. I will turn it back on in an hour when I get to my home computer.

OK I am home now looking at it... it says we had an omnibot crash. This is not related to our maps or 2.55 issues, it is an omnibot memory leak that has been known for a while.
I will assign the Beginner server more RAM so the memory leak can go longer before it crashes the ET server. It has been at 160 MB (the server uses about 120 MB when it first starts up).

I also took out a lot of "extras" on the Beginner server last night. All non-original maps, all weapon skins (venom and M16 files), and enhanced mod (the extra files that let us assign panzers to all players).
I'm still getting complaints about lag even after doing this last night, and still more crashes on beginner. So I need to strip out even more functionality that can cause lag. Obviously this sucks for me to remove all my hard work to make the server fun. This seems to happen wherever we are hosted.
The weapons are still cranked up, everything has the 999 ammo and high rate of fire. I haven't changed this and really, really don't want to. I can take out downloads and remove omnibots easily. But running generic jaymod weapons is like conceding total defeat. It is like saying "yay look I have no creativity and we have the same server as 500 other clans".
It is just running the original six maps. So there is basically nothing to download but the jaymod-2.2.0 file and the server menu file.
I hate changing stuff all the time but when beginner is crashing and lagging for many people then major surgery is unavoidable.
I wish players would actually play silent mod or no quarter so we wouldn't stuck with jaymod. But players love jaymod. And given equal settings and equal publicity they will click on a jaymod server 90% of the time over other mods.
I'm thinking about rolling back to jaymod-2.1.7. There are so many overlapping issues going on with jaymod and omnibot that cause lag and disconnects and headaches for everyone. The older jaymod was actually designed to work with omnibot, but when omnibot 0.81 came out (they are on 0.82 now) the jaymod developer had already stopped supporting the mod and did not work with the omnibot developers to iron out the bugs. So a lot of this is just hard-coded conflicts between jaymod and omnibot.

So i went to the serverhost control panel to restart the entire machine, and there was a note about some recent enormous ddos attacks against Internap (the datacenter that nuclear fallout runs on, which our machine runs on, which the individual ET servers run on. If you've seen the movie "Inception" it is kind of like that, with worlds within worlds.
Anyway here is a screenshot so you can see the story:

I love that line. Hopefully they get enough complaints from customers that they feel the need to track down this person/kid and go after him for damages. If for no other reason then to scare the shit out of him and his parents.

Sounds good Nara. At least we have a cause now. The founder doesn't have to spend the day trying to find out whats wrong.
