I made a new map list tonight actually before I came here to check on the forum.

I looked at some maps after we spoke tonight. Some that might be cool that I know well are:

Warbell is no problem. I think I will take out Northpole and replace it with Warbell tonight. I'm seeing people flee when Northpole comes on anyway.

The other maps you listed will need to be test ran first just to make sure they don't crash the server or anything. We have waypoints for them but we had waypoints for Fueldump_Christmas too, and that map crashed the server every time.

That map with the Zeppelin might be airassault_fp1.pk3. I can look at it tonight when I get home from work. The problem is that it does not have any waypoints so the bots would not work.

I am looking into a test server just to have a place to mess around with weapon mods and new maps. I am paying for a 40-slot server right now, and it rarely has more than 12 players at a time. So maybe having two x 20 slot servers would be more fun. It's just a thought right now. I have to discuss it with the server host and see if I can do it for the same cost. No point wasting money on empty slots so I may as well split it up. We could have different difficulty levels too.

Yesterday I removed marketgarden and citadel. On marketgarden, I notice a lot of players leave as soon as it comes on, I guess they feel lost or don't like it, so it had to go. On Citadel, players rush it every time and it is over in three minutes so not much point keeping it either.

I added venice to the mapcycle yesterday. I am going to add good old oasis in the mapcycle today.

Edit: removed Oasis after watching it get rushed in less than two minutes.

Berserk is not a bad map, just kind of long and the axis almost never win. I was thinking it might be a good map to use for a kill count game? That way, everybody can win (too corny?).

I also considered that if there are some really big maps, maybe you could try a team elimination sort of game. Boring for those players who are eliminated early, but maybe they could spectate and try to help their team continue. Might be more fun on your new server with less heavy weapons.

I will cycle out Berserk this Thursday. It is an average map, filled with random map items, and I get lost in it too. I am thinking about replacing it with dubrovnik_final or eagles_2ways_b3.

People don't like having limited lives in ET, they will just leave the server and play somewhere else. Counter-Strike is like that, you get killed and then you spectate the rest of the match. Good idea though. Thanks.

I don't know the name of the map but it's one that I played on the basic server. Um I think it was jimbob and marko. Axis escort a tank in to blow a hole in the wall, then they need to acquire a key card, then they need 5 sets of explosives, then they start the countdown on a rocket and BOOM! Rocket is gone with about 5 mins to spare. =(

I have pretty much zero knowledge on these things, but could you take a map form say, Call of Duty Allied assault from waaay back in the day and use it for ET? That was my game back in the day; such great maps. Does the fact that its of similar age to wolf make doing this possible? Cuz that. would be cool.

Call of Duty uses a different file system last time I looked at it. I tried to get into their stuff once to pull out some sounds, but it is not as easy as Quake 3 based games (RTCW, ET, Doom, etc). They try to prevent people like us from messing up their product lol. It's the opposite culture of ET.

You could get a map editor and make custom ET maps, there are lots of tutorials out there on how to do this.

I took out baserace_desert from FUNBOY (BEGINNER) and replaced it with mlb_egypt and SuperGoldrush_Final.

We have ten maps running on FUNBOY (BEGINNER):

Bremen
Caen
Eagles
Marrakech
Frostbite
Haunted Mansion
Egypt
Minas (30 minutes, with lower gravity)
Super Goldrush
Venice

Egypt is a big, beautiful map that everyone will get lost in if you haven't played it twenty times. Super Goldrush should be fun, but it does cause a bit of lag. It has a lot of extra rooms and special buttons so you can flood the bank. You can also jump way on top of the roofs and see down through the walls.

Which maps are you getting tired of? I notice people start to leave on frostbite now, also on whatever map has the bad luck to follow Minas. Let me know what maps are driving people away and we can cycle them out for a few weeks.

mlb_temple is a good one. Oasis gets rushed too easily with the low gravity, and everyone has played it millions of times. Outer space is kind of a strange map - like Unreal Tournament or Doom3 but with Americans and Germans instead of space marines and aliens. Not my favorite but it has a waypoint file so we can run it if people want it.

Eclipse asked me if we could run helmsdeep (the other Lord of the Rings ET map lol) with low gravity like Minas.

I am also thinking about adding isle. That is the map where you are on an island with an aqueduct in the middle you have to blow up/defend.

Frostbite is getting old, haunted Mansion is old too, and Venice is kinda boring. yes helms deep sounds great!!!!

Yeah the big maps work a lot better with the new weapons.

I might raise the spawn protection time to 3 or 4 seconds, if the spawn camping stays bad. I really don't want to do it, I love SK as much as anybody else. But if everyone figures out they can stand in front of the enemy spawn and panzerspam, then something has to be done. Raising the spawn protection time a second or two would be a good way to reduce the effectiveness of the tactic without actually reducing the panzers themselves.

I took out Helmsdeep from the FUNBOY (MINAS) server. It's just Minas now. I had one player on the server (yes there are sometimes a person or two on it lol) asking me the very obvious question of why they had to play Helmsdeep at all when they just wanted Minas. So I had to explain that "there are people who don't even play here, but they wanted Helmsdeep". So I just took it off and now it is just Minas all day long over and over. Anyway Helmsdeep is on the BEGINNER server too.

I am working on a No Quarter server (on my home computer), tweaking all the weapons and stuff, and when people get sick of Minas in a week or two I will switch that server over to No Quarter for a while.

Also I left Caen and Bremen on the FUNBOY (BEGINNER) server, since I like those maps (except when Destroyer wall hops the truck in Bremen lol). Need a script to block the objective in Bremen until the main wall is blown.

More bots are added when baserace starts, that is probably why it lags. I can take the extra bots out and it won't lag as much. Thanks for the comment. I'm sure other people are lagging.

Might need a reboot too.

Funny how a 40-slot server can't run 30 players (humans + bots) without lag. Sad

A lot of people love baserace so I don't want to take it out. I can lower the gravity or change the gamespeed on baserace to make it more fun. What do you think of that?

I love Marrakech myself, I will put it back in rotation. It has been out for a couple weeks.

What about some sniper maps? I always liked "Kitchen" but have not seen it for a long time on any server. I played it on some server a few years ago that had it so that head shots would kill on one hit. That was fun.

Go to the UJE clan's website. They specialize in sniper maps. They have dozens of homemade sniper maps. Pick a few you like and we can try them out.
