Reporting Aimbotters

We do not run Punkbuster on the FUNBOY (BEGINNER) server. Punkbuster causes technical problems and greatly reduces the number of players on the server. Punkbuster makes servers lag so bad that many players leave. It is easy for hackers to write hacks that bypass Punkbuster. Also, Punkbuster no longer supports ET anyway.

This does not mean that we cheat. Aimbotters and wallhackers take the fun out of the game, and this reduces the number of players on the server. We want a healthy server full of happy players.

Our admins are given basic training in how to ban cheaters, and we spend a lot of time behind the scenes discussing which players may or may not be cheating.

We require that players take a video of any suspects, and share that video with another admin to get approval for the ban. This cuts down on arbitrary banning by over-zealous admins.

If you are playing on our server and want to get someone looked at, please follow this procedure:

1) Quietly go to spectator and watch the player you think may be cheating.
2) Open your console with the ~ key.
3) Type /autorecord in the console to start taking a video.
4) Record a minute or so, then type /stoprecord in the console to stop recording.
5) Repeat until you think you have a good video. Shorter videos are better. No one wants to watch a twenty-minute video of someone else playing.
6) Exit the game and go to this folder: C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\jaymod\demos and find the video you just made. Convert it to a zip file and email it to an admin here for review.
7) If you made multiple videos, you can watch them on your own computer by opening ET, then going to MODS, select jaymod, then go to REPLAYS and select your videos one by one. This way you can pick the best video to have reviewed.
8.) Take notes of what time in the video you think the suspect is hacking. Describe the behavior you think is unusual. This will help the reviewer determine if you are right or wrong. A ten minute video with "this guy is hacking" and no details is unlikely to be given a great deal of attention if the hack is not obvious in the first thirty seconds. Again, no one wants to watch a very long video without knowing what they are looking for.
9) Send the video to an admin on the forum.
10) We will let you know if we approve the ban. We have busy lives in the real world and may not be immediately available to help you. We try to share responsibility for running the server so your video may not be reviewed by the person you sent it to.
