Banned before i ever playhed?

  My friend had me download Enemy territory cause we used to rock out with it when it was first released.  He is a regular on the flight school server and had me join in.  But upon connecting for the first time, it said i was banned indefinitely for wall hacking... Whats the deal?? how can i play with my freind on the flight school server?  other funboy servers work fine.

If you were banned on punk buster before, that is your problem. Shit follows you on pb enabled servers. Sounds like you have been a bad boy.

We aren't connected to punkbuster in any way. Some servers enabled "pbbans", which allowed them to block players who had been banned on other PB-enabled servers. But Evenbalance dropped pbban support for ET along with with everything else for ET.

It is possible his friend was banned and there is an IP ban in place. Or he himself was banned and is just being creative. Or someone made a bad ban with no supporting evidence and it needs to be lifted.

To help us determine whether we are at fault (always possible) or you are just telling a story, please give us your friend's player name so we can look in the database to see if the other account was banned. Your IP address would be helpful too. If your friend was banned with evidence the ban will stay. If not, we will look at who made the ban and why and possibly remove it.

Also is your friend in your house on the same IP, or is he somewhere else? If he is somewhere else, then it does not matter about him. If you are on the same IP then we need to know about him.

I will look at the server database later in the week when I get some free time. if this is indeed a bug and you are innocent, I would like to get more player information from you to give to the silent mod developers to help us fix bugs.

My understanding is that Quantex has the problem not his friend. He states that the friend is a regular who plays flightschool.

My bad on the punk buster, I thought you might have it on the silent server cause his ban message started with PB.

I assumed that was a punk buster message for some reason(probably half asleep) when it just means ban.

If he has a friend (his brother for example) and the friend got banned, then the IP to the house would be blocked. So no other player from the same IP would be able to play. This keeps cheaters from changing their name and etkey and coming back.

If his friend has a separate IP address, then it narrows down the ban to Quantex.

I don't remember anyone banning a player named "Quantex" but that doesn't mean he wasn't banned under a different alias. The fact that there is a "friend" involved is a common excuse for blaming someone else when a player gets banned.

The only reason I am not dismissing this entirely is that if it really is a "bad" ban then I need to know what is going on. So I need more information about the friend. What's his name? Does he live with you?

My friend is kirkgibson23,i believe hes been on the leader boards.  He lives in Chicago, I am in Ohio on a laptop which has never seen enemy territory in it's life.Not sure how the ban could follow me. And i have never hacked before.  When i first connected to the server it downloaded some files, then loaded up. after loading it flashed out and gave a disconnected error.  So i hit the reconnect button and it loaded again but then flashed back with the ban. I never was able to get into game play.

I am at a hospital on public wifi.  I have been living here basicly for awhile with my son during his leukemia treatment.  Maybe i can VPN into my home network and try that to see if there is an ip ban on the hospital.

The strange thing is that every time i connect to the server i get a "disconnected from server for an unknown reason".  then i hit the reconnect button, and i get the ban message for wall hacking.  i never get the ban message on the first connect. only on reconnect.

Okay, the ban is not IP based.  I tethered my laptop to my cellphone which changes the ip address and the ban is still in place.  Unless it learned my cdkey or something..

Yeah changing the IP address to avoid the ban is an old trick, but it doesn't work on silent mod though. You have to get a new computer to hide from the silent mod user id lol.

Woah Woah,that wasn't me. Talk to Kirk Gibson, he can confirm it. Plays the n flight school all the time. And this cd key business, I don't have one. The game was downloaded and installed. I'm just trying play an old game with an old friend. When was this ban anyhow? And how does it get associated with a new player?

This is connected to your etkey. I'm not sure how you are getting the same etkey as these prior bans if you don't have an etkey. If this had been a value resulting from the absence of an etkey, then we would have hundreds of bans from every player without an etkey. Did you install ET from scratch or did you copy someone else's folder?

The silent id is hardware-related. So it looks like =profap= used the same etkey on two different computers, and got banned because of the etkey. Yes your silent ID is one letter different. I didn't see that. Seems strange to me that you would have the same etkey and an almost identical hardware ID. If you were going to modify it why would you leave it almost the same as before? It doesn't make sense.

My first assumption is that you are playing some kind of mind-game with us. If you are sincere about this, I would like to get you in touch with the developer of the mod to see if this is a database bug.

there is a picture of my son, sitting here with leukemia at the hospital. I just took it. Weve been here for weeks. I realize that the stuff you said is odd,but im telling you i don't know who the fck owns profap or migay. Your server isn't a huge deal to me but this kinda pisses me off.. something so simple as downloading an old game to play with a freind on his favorite server has turned into pain in the ass.. If you don't want to let me in.. whatever i don't care.. just a server among a thousand. nothing special. your pings arnt exactly great in my location anyway. but the principle of the matter makes me want to fix this problem and have fun (getting dominated im sure since i last played when it was called return to castle wolfenstein).

Also, I own 3 laptops, 2 desktops and a massive ESXI vmware server in my basement. I have plenty of computers laying around to get into your server and bypass the ban. However, at the hospital i only have one laptop and loads of time sitting around here to try and figure out whats going on. I am a computer sci guy and hate mysteries I cannot solve. I would love to work with the developer if that is an option, and would help the mod out in some way.

I sent an email to one of the silent mod developers to read this thread but I haven't heard back from him.

I can remove your account completely tonight when I get home from work, but as long as you have the same user id as profap it will just reban you. So you will need to install a new etkey before you reconnect or it will just reactivate the ban.

Go to etkey.org and download a new etkey, and since you have different hardware and IP it should not connect you to profap. We'll see if that works.

I have removed your ban and the other bans connected to =profap= except for his original ban.

I am upgrading the server to the latest version of silent mod tonight. I do not know how this will affect XP or admin levels. I am always hesitant to modify silent mod since we have had trouble with losing XP on previous upgrades.

I am discussing this bug with the silent mod developers.

Thank you for your time on this and understanding. I am still trying to wrap my head around how this happened given the information you noted earlier how the banning process works. As for the xp loss, I hope it works well for you and the players. Luckily i haven't earned a single xp point.. Yet. lol

hmm, i can connect to the server and join but withing 10 seconds it crashes out with error message -8<--------crash information------->8- every time. We were released from the hospital last night,so maybe ill try this on a desktop. ET is a bit flaky on this laptop.

The mod developer says that you are being banned because of a VMWare issue on our server. It is creating duplicate "ident" values with you and the banned hacker and a few other players who were also banned.

It is not the lack of an etkey, but a VMWare issue that occurs. That is why we did not have 300 bans, since half the players do not have an etkey anymore.

Most players without an etkey were completely unaffected. I had gotten on the server with no etkey myself last week before this was reported, and I had no trouble playing. I was not banned for not having an etkey.

The newer versions should fix this according to the mod developer.

Funny thing, we are using debian 6 on the server OS, so we may not even be using VMWare. VMWare is proprietary and you have to buy it. I didn't tell him we were using VMWare, that was his explanantion.
